Minister for Human Services Senator the Hon Marise Payne said almost one in three Australian adults gain access to government services through myGov, with a total of five million active users.
“myGov has experienced a remarkable rise in traffic since the addition of the Australian Tax Office on 1 July with more than 2 million new accounts created since the start of the new financial year,” Minister Payne said “There’s no question that the introduction of the ability to lodge a simple tax return through myGov has been responsible for a huge surge in the number of registrations this year.”
Minister Payne explained that through myGov people can link to their online accounts for Medicare, Centrelink, Child Support, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the Personally Controlled e-Health Record System and the Australian Taxation Office. Minster Payne added that on average almost 40,000 new users signed up each day in July.
“The services available through myGov are regularly evolving as member providers upgrade their online offerings. For example, my department has progressively broadened the range of Centrelink and Medicare services available online to make routine transactions quick and easy.” Minister Payne commented “In addition, myGov has welcomed new members and new features, including the Australian Tax Office and their myTax service, and the more recent addition of a link to Australia Post’s myPost digital mail service.”
