Minister for the Arts Joy Burch recently announced the successful applicants for the fund, which is part of the ACT Arts Fund and is managed by ScreenACT. Ms Burch explained that a film adaptation of one of Canberra’s most notorious crimes, a sci-fi horror movie about dangerous Australian wildlife, and a documentary about a local dragon boat racing crew are among 11 projects to share in $100,000 of funding through the ACT Screen Arts Fund in 2015.
“I am delighted with the diversity of projects and the level of talent we have in the ACT, and look forward to seeing the outcomes of these exciting projects.” Ms Burch commented.
Ms Burch explained that the ACT Screen Arts Fund provides opportunities for local screen artists to move into new stages of their development, no matter what stage of their career they are at.
“For example, Sotiris Dounoukos, whose short film A Single Body (Un Seul Corps) won an award at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, will be funded for mentorship support on a feature film adaptation of Helen Garner’s bestselling novel, Joe Cinque’s Consolation.” Ms Burch explained “Megan Watson will receive a grant to extend her filmmaking skills as she works with an editor on Dragon Ladies, a documentary which follows a local boat crew on their quest to participate at the World Club Crew dragon boat championships.” Christian Doran will be funded for script development for two sci-fi feature projects – Luminous, about a love triangle involving a man who clones his best friend’s wife, and Terror Australis, which plays on international fears of Australian wildlife.” Burch added.
