In the midst of the largest airborne invasion in history Operation Market Garden., one small unit of men, codename “Matchbox” has its own agenda. When Matchbox are shot down short of their landing zone, the odds of their success seem hopeless. Seven very different British soldiers find themselves separated from the Allied invasion, on a collision course with three renegade German soldiers who also want to lay claim to the horde.
Sadly, The Last Drop seemed to try to be too many things and tragically ended up coming up short. Director Colin Teague did something stylistically interesting where contrasted brief moments of black and white footage with the rest of the movie being in colour. It appeared to have what it took be a decent war movie, granted it would not have been a masterpiece but it would have been memorable. Where things really seemed to fall down was its attempt to also be a crime and it failed, the story didn’t have the intelligence to be a good crime movie, as well. It lacked that flair that you would expect a crime movie to bring to the table.
The movie really would have flowed better if one of the two main plot threads involving the German was cut out of the movie.
