An eighteen year old high school dropout and his twenty-seven year old friend start trafficking marijuana across the border of Canada in order to make money and their lives are changed forever.

For the record this movie is based on the true story of Nate Norman and his marijuana empire. The actual screenplay was adapted from two magazine articles that was optioned by director John Stockwell a Rolling Stone piece from 2005 “Kid Cannabis: How a Chubby Pizza-Delivery Boy from Idaho Became a Drug Kingpin” by contributing editor Mark Binelli and “Dreaming in Green” by Kevin Taylor.
I should point out that John Stockwell is probably one of my least favorite directors and he has been since his 2012 telemovie Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden and he really has not delivered anything that could come close to redeem himself as a director in my eyes. Sure Kid Canabis is an interesting movie, but only in a “oh cool this is based on a true story” kind of way. There were no real memorable performances and the ending seemed a little to rushed for my tastes.
