Okay, before we get started a small piece of housekeeping. A small note to all of the filmmakers and film executives around the world who are about to make a movie adapted from a young adult series of novels the dictionary defines the word trilogy as being ‘a series or group of three plays, novels, operas, etc., that although individually complete, are closely related in theme, sequence or the like. So, in other words now that the second movie in this trilogy has been released in the form of Insurgent; you have only one more movie for this to truly be a trilogy. Savvy? (The next time I repeat myself on this I’ll be sure to type slower for those film executives who might being having trouble following this simple point) There is no need for this one story split into two parts bullshit.

Now time to get down to business and write the rest of the review. Criticizing movies that have been adapted from a young adult novel series is like shooting fish in a barrel (the easiest negative thing to say being that it’s a movie adapted from a young adult novel series). It should be noted that the film-making process that goes into making these movie is also pretty much like shooting fish in a barrel to be really honest the modern equivalent of a pulp magazine . So in other words You’re almost guaranteed some kind financial success, unless the Director is a complete hack and that is probably not going to happen with the remaining chapter of this series considering that the production company Summit Entertainment is the production company to blame for Twilight.

Now, I did not take the time to refresh my memory about the series (like I have done on occasion with other film series) by watching Divergent before watching Insurgent, I’m pretty sure of the two movies I prefer Insurgent over divergent. Perhaps Shailene Woodley’s talents where better suited to completely different project, but then again there probably would have been blood if the role of ‘Tris’ was recast. I actually liked the realization the movie came to as to why this society had been built in the first place. Fans of Wes Ball’s The Maze Runner might see a slight similarity between the two movies.
