Minister for Sport and Recreation, Shane Rattenbury, has announced the winning design for the new water play park at Lakeside Leisure Centre (LLC) in Tuggeranong. “Almost 1,000 votes were received during the two week voting period, which is a really fantastic result,” Minister Rattenbury said “Members of the public were invited to choose their favourite design from the three options available, and the first design came out on top, receiving almost 50 per cent of the vote.”
Mr. Rattenbury explained that covering an area of 246 metres squared and a spray area of 153 metres squared, this design included the most water activities as well as shade sails for protection from the sun.
“I am sure that visitors to Lakeside Leisure Centre will find the water play park to be a welcome addition to the facility, which is undergoing refurbishments over winter to improve the general amenity, and health and safety aspects of the facility.” Mr. Rattenbury commented “Our pools do require maintenance from time to time, but when patrons return to the pool when it reopens on 1 September, and then again at the start of the summer season on 1 November, I am confident they will be pleased with the improvements to LLC, which will include the new water play park.” Rattenbury added.
Mr. Rattenbury explained that the LLC, including the gymnasium, will be closed for all of July and August to enable necessary repair and maintenance to occur. The refurbishment includes retiling of the pool concourse and renovating the change rooms. Rattenbury pointed out that the works have been scheduled during the low season of pool use and to reduce disruption to pool users.
