Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch today officially opened the ‘Step into the Limelight’ art exhibition which features over 400 quality artworks by ACT students from 30 public schools.
“The Limelight program highlights the wonderful artistic talent and programs available in public schools and the outstanding commitment of students, teachers, parents, and the local community,” Ms Burch said.
The exhibition, which opened recently at the ANU School of Art Gallery, is an initiative of the Education and Training Directorate in collaboration with the ANU School of Art.
Ms Burch explained that Step into the Limelight began in 2007 and has since grown into one of the largest youth arts events in the ACT. It comprises three major events – the Art Exhibition, a Film Festival and a Gala Performance. This year students explore the theme of ‘Light’ in visual art, dance, drama, music and multimedia. Burch went on to point out that the exhibition features works by students from preschool right through to Year 12 in a variety of mediums including photography, sculpture, collage, painting, lino print and mixed media.
“I would sincerely like to thank the members of the production team who have tirelessly coordinated this year’s event. It is through the enormous efforts of ACT public school teachers that we are able to enjoy the students’ excellent results on display, and I strongly encourage Canberrans to visit this magnificent exhibition,” Ms Burch commented.
