70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin.
For a moment when I went into this one thinking that Nancy Myers directed Wayne’s World, but with the wonders of modern technology I quickly cleared that up when I found out that it was Penelope Spheeris. Looking at Myers’ Filmography I’ve realised that I have seen some of her movies though it took looking at her filmography to prompt my memory to realise the movies of hers that I have watched. Myers delivered a pretty good movie, it’s the type of movie that you don’t have to feel that guilty about if you haven’t rushed off to your friendly neighbourhood cinema the first week of its cinematic run but be sure to remember the title because The Intern is definitely worthy of your time.
Both Hathaway and De Niro gave decent enough performances and had a brilliant onscreen chemistry, though this isn’t the calibre of movie where I would see that they have given the kid of performance where they have stamped these roles as their own and nobody else’s. But then again this was never that kind of movie.
