Australian Workers seeking important change in 2012

According to research released today by SEEK Learning a third of the Australian Workforce is planning to return to their studies to help them facilitate important change in their job in 2012.
The research also found that 23% are planning a change of career while 14% are looking to start their own company within the next five years.
General Manager of SEEK Learning Tony Barrett commented, “Up-skilling or re-training is a great start to help you achieve your career goals. Education has changed over recent years, and there are now a whole range of flexible and supporting learning options that allow busy people to balance learning with work, family or both.”

The research also found that:-

Fame game: 18 per cent said that entertainment celebrities are a key role model when it comes to career success, compared to only five per cent who are inspired by international and home-grown politicians
Dream job: The ‘Steve Jobs’ effect has taken Australia by storm, with IT being the most aspired-to industry (13 per cent) closely followed by the creative (11 per cent) and financial (10 per cent) sectors
Shooting to the top: 38 per cent of Australians that want to progress at work aim to be promoted to a senior level within five years. A further four per cent are gunning for MD position or a seat on the board by 2017
Class clowns: 69 per cent feel that not taking their education seriously enough when they were younger has had a negative impact on their career
On the job: 72 per cent of professionals feel that their company does not offer the tools, support or training they need to progress in their career
