When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind.
Forgive the use of a television term but it seems that with the release of Underworld Awakening that the Underworld film franchise has jumped the shark. With the introduction with the introduction of new directors to the franchise it appears that, it has lost the dark gothic feel that the first film captured so easily in 2003. I cannot help but wonder if the overall plot of the movie would have been taken in a completely different direction if Scott Speedman had reprised his role Michael Corvin beyond only being featured in the movie through the use of archive footage.
Despite the failure to embrace the spirit of Len Wiseman’s 2003 film, it is still very much a watchable action movie. I would recommend this to anybody who believes that vampires should not be, portrayed as glittery disco balls.
