In the Australian Outback, two brothers discover old secrets and family lies. As their friends start to go missing they fear they are being stalked by someone or something from their worst nightmares – But is it just – A story? A legend? A hoax? Or is it real?

It is always good to see Australian films getting made, those of you who read my reviews on a regular basis would known that I have a tendency to get a little over excited when I come across them but that’s usually because they have a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ kind of run at our friendly neighbourhood cinemas. That’s something that I hope doesn’t happen to Red Billabong, so to borrow a phrase from the legendary Molly Meldrum ‘Do yourself a favour’ when you see this one at your friendly Neighbour Cinema, DVD store or wherever good movies are sold.
This is actually the first feature film offering from Writer/Director Luke Sparke whose story paints Bunyips a little differently then what I remember them being when I was younger when I was read Jenny Wagner’s book The Bunyip of Berkley’s Creek (some might say that Sparke’s approach to the Bunyip is what some might think as being slightly more traditional).
Red Billabong actually is kind of a significant movie as I am told it is the first Australian movie to feature a fully realised GCI character (for the record even with the blood that the Bunyip split it probably won’t be as widely hated as Jar Jar Binks).
For the record this is not a big loud action movie and might come across as being a little slow in places but Sparke has some really beautiful shots of the Queensland bushland and Red Billabong builds to a uniquely Australian ending.

I await the Bunyip’s return.
