An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maid’s point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis.
The Help deserves every single Academy Award nomination that it received this year. Particularly Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer who were nominated for the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories.
I might not have used this term for a while but The Help has the very essence of what it is to be a ‘Mum Movie’. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about a ‘Mum Movie’ is the type of movie that you would be comfortable watching with your mother and the type of movie that you will both thoroughly enjoy.
There was just such a stunning cast, I was also impressed by who the actress’ playing the socialites collectively seemed to capture a quality that you would expect to see at your local high school.
