A new Queensland Government online register will make it easier to find local, licensed contractors to start repair works in cyclone-affected areas. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the construction industry was gearing up to help with recovery of cyclone affected homes and communities.
“To make sure you can find reliable tradies, Housing and Public Works Minister Mick de Brenni has ensured that the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has established a central online register of licensed trade contractors,” Premier Palaszczuk commented “This register will indicate the towns and cities where tradies will be available for cyclone repairs, and the locations where contractors are based.”
Mr de Brenni said it was important to use licensed contractors for repair works to ensure the work done was done safely and complies with relevant standards.
“If you check the QBCC website and don’t find the contractor listed, call the QBCC on 139 333 to confirm if the contractor is appropriately licensed,” Mr. de Brenni commented “Getting repairs done quickly is important to get communities back on their feet, and supporting local businesses where possible is also part of that.”
